Keeping your body and mind healthy can be a challenge, especially if you stress out every time you think about it. But simple changes are easy when adding just a little something extra to your daily routine. Increase the number of healthy living choices you make every day by following the 5 basic steps of Maximized Living.

Mind

A maximized mind brings the elements of time, stress management and adequate amounts of sound sleep together so that you can keep the attitude on the upside. Feeling good within our minds helps us to improve relationships with others — that in itself is part of how well we like ourselves and feel at peace. Dr. Jerod believes that improving a negative attitude and creating an easygoing mindset about life and health will lead us to create positive lifestyle improvements. For a start, try getting to bed earlier and listening to soothing music. Leave the office work at the office.

Nerve Supply

In the human body, the nerve supply provides links to organs, cells and systems that bring us to life. When our bodies become “out of whack,” it is difficult to physiologically function properly. For example, if the spinal cord is out of alignment — that’s a common problem for people of all ages — it may be because of stress; emotional, physical and/or chemical. Dealing with these types of stress and their triggers is essential to developing a health-improvement plan. See a chiropractic doctor for a full spinal examination.

Quality Nutrition

“You are what you eat.” We hear that all the time and it’s basically true; the fuel we stoke our engines with determines how we feel in the short and long runs of life. Food — the right types — allows our bodies to heal each day. The word “diet” does not necessarily mean eliminating calories but rather, creating the proper daily food intake plan that allows us to function at optimum levels. Maximized Quality Nutrition means exactly that; creating a diet that is high in proteins, fruits, vegetables, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and controlled carbohydrates. Doing so (and sticking to it) will increase energy, lessen the effects of stress and depression and keep your mind out of the fog. It doesn’t have to be a strict regimen but you can make a few changes here and there. For instance, when going out to lunch, order a salad instead of a cheeseburger. Trade the chips and fries for an apple or some nuts. It’s OK to have the carbs and sugar on occasion but it’s also OK to say “nope, not today.” The more you do that, the more you’ll want to do that.

Oxygen & Lean Muscle

Yes, it really is one word; exercise. Our bodies need high levels of oxygen and that comes from daily (here’s that word again) exercise. Walking, jogging, swimming — just about any activity that requires movement — can strengthen muscles, increase the flow of oxygen to the brain, and help your mind stay focused and at peace. Little things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator can increase your stamina. Pilates and stretching can lead to more strenuous activities that get the heart rate up, burn calories and decrease fat content. Try low or high-impact cardio exercises such as stair-stepping, aerobics, bicycling and rope jumping to really get the blood pumping — even dancing!. Physical activity brings something just as important to our body’s table: motivation.

Minimize Toxins

Eating “it’s good for you” food and cooking with organic products are a couple of steps toward minimizing the toxins in our bodies that come from processed meals. However, daily life is full of chemicals and toxins such as those from household cleaners, medications, cosmetics and toiletries, fuels, dust, dirt and mold. While living completely “organic” is rather difficult to do, minimizing access to toxins and chemicals can increase energy levels and help us maintain a positive attitude and outlook on life!
