What Does Detox Mean?

When you go on a detox, you cleanse the blood in your body by eating healthier and staying away from unhealthy substances. When detoxifying, you remove the toxins in your body as well as eliminate the impurities from the blood in your liver. Think of it like pushing your liver to work double-time in order to remove the impurities. In this article, we’ll go over some easy tips that anyone can follow to start detoxifying their body today.  Here are some basic tips for detoxifying your body.

Cut down on your sugar intake

Eat fresh in-season fruit if you get a craving for sugar. Because cherries, blackberries, raspberries, apples and avocados are the lowest on the glycemic index, they will be the best fruits to eat while detoxifying. To better remember which fruits to eat, simply remind yourself that berries and apples are A-OK, while most other fruits should be avoided. Avoid drinking fruit juice, too; many times, fruit juice contains just as many sugars and calories as soft drinks and other sugary beverages. And, when eating fruit, make sure you eat it with protein-dense food, like a handful of almonds or cashews. Eating fruits like bananas, grapes, and peaches are OK as long as you limit them to after working out, or directly after eating protein.

Healthy Living | Dr. JerodEat plenty of veggies

Vegetables are the best source of vitamins and minerals. When cooking, try to mix in as many green leaf vegetables as you can — such as romaine and spinach — including inside smoothies. Never use iceberg lettuce, as it has nearly no nutritional value. In addition to romaine lettuce and spinach, eat kale, zucchini, brussel sprouts, cucumber, eggplant, celery, carrots, asparagus, and yams (sweet potatoes).

Limit your grain intake

Limit your daily grains to include oatmeal, brown and wild rice, buckwheat, manna bread, rye, and tortillas. These foods don’t contain gluten and are whole, sprouted grains that are better for you than other grains and grain products. When eating grains, make sure you eat them before 5 p.m. for maximum fat burning.

Look for meat that is grass-fed

Animals that are fed grain will naturally be higher in weight and will contain omega-6 fats. When reading the package, make sure it indicates that the animal was free-range and antibiotic and hormone-free. Look for free-range eggs, grass-fed beef, steak, and deli meat, and free-range turkey and chicken.

Buy raw nuts that haven’t been roasted

The best nuts and seeds to eat are walnuts, almonds, cashews, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, ground flax seeds, brazil nuts and pecans.

Make time for exercise

Exercising doesn’t just help you to look your best and to detoxify — it also helps you to de-stress, sleep better, and it can even help you live longer, too.
